What Is Emotionally Focused Therapy?
Together we look at patterns in the relationship and take steps to create a more secure bond and develop more trust to move the relationship in a healthier, more positive direction.
When to Use
Couples and families in distress can benefit from EFT learning to improve their relationships. EFT has also been proven effective for couples who are having trouble coping with their own illness or that of a child. EFT can also help individuals with symptoms of depression or trauma.
What to Expect
As your EFT therapist I observe and help clients tie their behavior to the dynamics in their lives and relationships. This helps create new conversations and interactions which are based on more honest feelings. As your therapist I will encourage you to look at your current emotional issues and then help you discover feelings and emotions that you may not realize you have. Assisting you to learn how to express these emotions in a way that helps you connect, rather than disconnecting with your partner or family. You will learn new patterns how to listen and engage with other’s emotions and discover how these new patters are more productive ways to respond to emotional situations.
How It Works
EFT focuses on the present and how to makes changes in the present. There are three stages, of EFT. The first is to de-escalate the persons negative cycle of interactions, help them identify and understand what is happening in their relationship. In the next stage we restructure interactions, here I help clients to discuss their fears with language that encourages connection. Consolidation is the third stage, in this stage I assist clients to see how they arrived into negative patterns and also I point out how they can and have been able to change those patterns and have the power to continue these types of conversations in the future.
